Sandakphu is a tourist location at the Indo-Nepal Border and is a the starting point for various trekking tour activity occurring in Darjeeling district of west Bengal.Sandakphu or Sandakfu or Sandakpur (3636 m; 11,930 ft) is the highest peak in the district of Ilam, Nepal and West Bengal, India. It is the highest point of the Singalila Ridge in Darjeeling district on the West Bengal-Nepal border. The peak is located at the edge of the Singalila National Park and has a small village on the summit with a few hostels. There are regular bus service from Siliguri to Darjeeling. But according to me bus service is not quite comfortable and also costlier. Regular cab service is available from both Njp Railway station or Bagdogra Airport.Both shared and private cab a available at nominal price to Darjeeling.From Darjeeling one can hire or share cab which in many times are British Era Land Rover for onward journey to Sandakphu.

The nearest Railway Station is New Jalpaiguri.Train are available for Njp Railway station from all major railway stations of the country.After reaching Njp railway station .From there book either shared and private cab to Darjeeling.From Darjeeling one can hire or share cab which in many times are British Era Land Rover for onward journey to Sandakphu.

By Air

The nearest airport of Sandakphu is Bagdogra, near Siliguri which is 96 km away from Darjeeling. It takes 2.5 hours by road from Darjeeling. A is a tiny hamlet that is located at a distance of approximately 26 km from Darjeeling. From Siliguri it is almost 92 kms away. About Chitrey

Chitrey is a small mountain village located at the hamlet of Sandakphu.Chitrey is first place you reach while on the way to Sandakphu where trekkers and tourists halt for a while for refreshment and enjoy the beautiful. The road and the trekking trail from Mane Bhanjang up to Chitrey is considered one of the steepest in the entire stretch to Sandakphu. Located at an altitude of 8,340ft and about 3kms from Mane Bhanjang. It takes about 1.5 hours of trek from Mane Bhanjang and about 20 minutes by 4-wheel-drive vehicle to reach Chitre.It used to be a boulder road starting from Mane Bhanjan up to Chitrey and all the way up to Sandakphu. However now the road up to Chitre has been pitched (tarred) and vehicles can easily come up to this place. But from Chitre onwards, it is still a bumpy boulder road ahead.

The main attraction in Chitrey is the old Buddhist Monastery and the marvelous views of the Kanchenjunga snow peaks. Take some time out, walk through the gate into the monastery premises and take a look inside. Before the main monastery are eight small stupas elevated from the ground.

About Tonglu

Tonglu is a small hamlet located at the altitude of 3036 meter is the one of the higher peaks of the Singalila Ridge and a small settlement inside the Singalila National Park in the Darjeeling subdivision, Darjeeling district in the state of West Bengal in India near the India - Nepal border. Tumling is a small hamlet in, Ilam District of Nepal. Phalut or Falut is situated at an altitude of 3600 m is the second highest peak of West Bengal, India. A small bunkhouse is near the top of the peak and is administered by the Indian army. Singalila Pass is 17 km away from Phalut.The indigenous tribes surrounding the mountain peak are known as Falutians by outsiders.
